Squeezed entoloma (Entoloma rhodopolium)

Entoloma sagging, Или pink gray (лат. Entoloma rhodopolyum) is a species of fungus belonging to the genus Entoloma of the Entolomataceae family.

Diameter 3-10 cm, hygrophanous, convex in youth, then relatively procumbent, and even later – depressed-convex, with a dark tubercle in the center. The color varies greatly depending on the humidity: olive gray, gray-brown (when dry) or dull brown, reddish. The flesh is whitish, thin, odorless or with a sharp alkaline odor. (The odorous variety was formerly distinguished as a special species, Entoloma nidorosum.)

It grows in August-September, preferring deciduous forests. Found abundantly in damp places.

In general, the mushroom looks very “general” – you can literally confuse it with anything. At the same time, the plates turning pink with age immediately cut off many options like Melanoleuca or Megacollybia. Growing on the soil does not allow us to take this entoloma for some little-known whip. From other similar entoloma (in particular, Entoloma lividoalbum and Entoloma myrmecophilum), the sagging entoloma can sometimes be distinguished by a sharp ammonia smell: in the listed species, the smell, on the contrary, is floury and pleasant. A variety that does not have a distinct smell is much more difficult to determine.
