How to wash terry and velor towels
Bath, beach and sports towels are often sewn from terry and velor, less often kitchen towels. Outwardly, such products look like pile. Their surface consists of fluff or loops of warp threads. Terry and velor fabrics are obtained from natural materials: cotton, linen, bamboo, eucalyptus or beech wood. Travel towels are made of microfiber – polyester or polyamide fabric.
White cotton towels can be washed at 60 degrees.
Washing instructions for terry and velor towels:
- white and colored items are washed separately;
- terry textiles, unlike velor textiles, can be pre-soaked, but no longer than half an hour;
- for fluffy fabrics, it is better to use washing gels, since powders are poorly washed out;
- products from bamboo and modal are washed at 30 ° C, from cotton, flax and microfiber – at 40-60 ° C;
- the optimal temperature for velor is 30-40 ° С;
- during hand washing, fluffy towels should not be rubbed, twisted or squeezed strongly;
- in the washing machine, the towels are wrung out at 800 rpm.
It is advisable to dry products in the open air. Before hanging, damp laundry should be shaken slightly to straighten the pile. Terry towels are often hard after washing and drying. By adding softener during the rinse phase, you can prevent the fabric from becoming thicker. You can also restore softness to the product with an iron – by steaming.
How to properly wash kitchen towels
Kitchen towels are made of linen and cotton fabric. Wafer cloth with a relief checkered pattern is considered to be especially practical and durable. Before washing, heavily soiled towels are soaked for an hour in a cool saline solution – a tablespoon of salt per liter of water. Stubborn fabric stains can be additionally treated with hydrogen peroxide, citric acid or stain remover.
Colored and white towels are machine washed separately
Instructions for washing, drying and ironing kitchen towels:
- products can be washed with any universal powder in the “cotton” mode;
- water temperature for colored towels – 40 ° C, for white – 60 ° C;
- it should be wrung out in the mode of 800-1000 revolutions;
- dry products in the open air, on a radiator or heated towel rail;
- iron the towels from the wrong side, turning on the iron at 140-200 ° C and using steam.
Solid white garments can be bleached before the main wash by boiling for an hour in a special alkaline solution. For a liter of water, take 40 g of soda ash and 50 g of grated laundry soap. Another way to bring the whiteness back to the kitchen textiles is to apply hot mustard gruel to the wet fabric. After 8 hours, the towels are rinsed and washed.
So, the choice of the washing mode depends on the fabric of the product. White kitchen towels can be boiled down, treated with bleach.
