One of her relatives, Ptolemy Soter, was close to Alexander the Great. For his devoted service, he received from the great commander of the land of Egypt. He was next to the Macedonian at his death and embalmed his body. Later he moved to Alexandria, a city that was named after the great commander.

A library was founded in this city, which was destined to become famous over the centuries. Cleopatra had access to this library and, through reading books, became an educated woman. In addition, her distinctive features were willpower and a subtle mind. She knew how to use her beauty and charm.

Almost nothing is known about the Queen’s childhood and youth. But the girl received a strong shock when her father was overthrown, and her sister Berenice began to rule Egypt.

This taught Cleopatra a good lesson. This knowledge was used when she came to rule a great empire. All who stood in her way were eliminated. Including blood relatives – brother Ptolemy XIV and sister Arsenoy.

Years of government and power

Power passed to Cleopatra at the age of 16. According to the customs of that time, she became the wife of her 9-year-old brother, who was physically weak and did not have a great mind. For the young ruler, it was already clear then that she had no right to make mistakes.

The slightest oversight could oppose her, such are the laws of life and being in power. The marriage with my brother was more formal. At that time, a woman could not rule alone, no matter what qualities she was different.

She was supposed to rule the throne under the official title, which sounded like Thea Philopator, which means a goddess who treats her father with love.

The first 3 years of her reign were not easy for Cleopatra. The Nile had not spilled enough to get a good harvest, it was like a tragedy in those days. This difficult time lasted two years.

After several years of reign, she was forced to flee and take refuge in Syria. Julius Caesar helped her regain the throne, hoping by this to gain influence over Egypt.

The first meeting of Julius Caesar and Cleopatra took place in secret in Caesar’s chambers. She asked for help and complained about her brother’s harassment. Julius was fascinated by her intelligence, youth and beauty.

Soon Cleopatra gave birth to a son by Caesar. In 46 BC. NS. Cleopatra with a minor Ptolemy moved to Caesar in Rome.

Two years later, after the assassination of Caesar, she returned to Egypt. Having poisoned her brother, Cleopatra finally became the sovereign ruler.

At the age of 28, the wise queen met the Roman general Mark Antony, co-ruler Julius Caesar. There are many legends about their love and relationship. This romance lasted for 10 years. During this time, the queen gave birth to three children to Mark Anthony.

But in the fight against Caesar’s heir, Octavian, Antony and Cleopatra suffered a crushing defeat. The wife betrayed Anthony and he committed suicide.
