Overweight people who are trying to lose weight often think that being overweight is a purely physiological problem. However, in fact, the reasons for this are rooted much deeper. What exactly is stopping you from reaching your desired goal? Psychologist Natalya Shcherbinina, who lost 47 kilograms, shares her opinion.

Often overweight people are convinced: “I don’t eat anything special, I get fat from one look at a chocolate bar. I can’t influence it in any way, ”or“ Everything in our family is complete — it’s hereditary, I can’t do anything about it ”, or“ My hormones don’t work that way, what can I do about it? Nothing!»

But the human body is far from a self-contained system. We are surrounded by many events to which we react. And at the heart of the formation of excess weight is also a reaction to stress, and not just a genetic predisposition or hormonal disruptions.

There is nothing superfluous in our body, including weight

We often do not analyze problems because we are afraid to face the truth. It is much easier to just try not to think about unpleasant things. But, unfortunately, the problems ousted in this way do not disappear, as it seems to us, but simply move to another level — the bodily one.

At the same time, there is nothing superfluous in our body, including weight. If it exists, it means that subconsciously it is “more correct”, “safer” for us. What we call «excess» weight is an adaptation mechanism to the environment, not «enemy number one». So what exactly are the events that provoke our body to accumulate it?

1. DISSATISFACTION WITH YOURSELF

Remember how often you stand in front of a mirror and scold yourself for your own forms? How often are you dissatisfied with the quality or volume of your body? How often do you get angry at your reflection and embarrass yourself?

This is a total mistake of most people who want to gain harmony. They turn the path to the body of their dreams into a war on fat, internal bargaining and violence.

But the psyche does not care if the threat exists in reality or only in our thoughts. So think for yourself: what happens to the body during the war? That’s right, he’s starting to stock up! At such times, it is more logical not to distribute the accumulated, but only to increase its amount.

A simple exercise to better understand your condition: on a scale from 0 to 100% — how satisfied are you with your body? If below 50% — it’s time to get involved in work with your inner world. This is a process. This is the way. But the road will be mastered by the walking one.

2. LACK OF PERSONAL BORDERS

What is the difference between a fat person and a thin person? Do not take it for body shaming, but there is still a difference in thinking and behavior, in my opinion. Fat people are more often in a state of protection. These are the thoughts that are swirling around in my head and do not give rest:

  • “There are enemies around — give me a reason, they will immediately treat you inhumanely”
  • «No one can be trusted — these days»
  • “I’m all by myself — and I don’t need anyone’s help, I can handle it without everyone!”
  • “In our world, you have to be thick-skinned to live in peace”
  • “Life and people have made me impenetrable!”

Defending himself, a person automatically begins to build up a fatty shell. The good news is that you can change the situation — you just need to change your attitude towards people, yourself and circumstances.

The bad news is that it requires you to stop, introspect, open up to help from outside, and remember strong traumatic experiences from the past.

3. FEAR OF LOVE RELATIONSHIPS

Excess weight acts in this case as a subconscious desire not to be a sexually demanded partner. There are many reasons why sex and sexuality can be perceived as something hostile:

  • “From childhood, my mother said that it was bad! If she found out that I was having sex, she would kill me!
  • “When I wore a miniskirt for my 16th birthday, my father was ashamed that I looked like a moth”
  • «These guys can’t be trusted!»
  • «I was raped»

All these are quotes from living people who were overweight. As you understand, no matter what diet you choose, a rollback is inevitable as long as there is an internal trauma that forces the body to gain weight, and not lose it.

In psychology, there is a definition of the sexual constitution, which explains why some people want to have sex every day, while for others this is the tenth thing. But sometimes the constitution is just a cover for complexes and fears.

Complexes are “fragments of the psyche”. Emotional traumas that a person has not lived through and drags with him all his life, like a bag of rotting potatoes. Because of them, we make our body a “scapegoat” and instead of satisfying sexual hunger, we overeat stocks from the refrigerator.

4. RESCUE SYNDROME

From a physiological point of view, fat is the easiest and fastest source of energy. Can you imagine How long energy is needed to “save”: a son, a daughter, a husband, a neighbor, Uncle Vasya? This is where you have to save it.

5. IMPAIRING THE IMPORTANCE OF THE BODY

The body is often devalued. Like, the soul — yes! It is eternal, obliged to «work day and night.» And the body is just a “temporary shelter”, a “package” for a beautiful soul.

Choosing such a tactic, a person decides to live inside his head — exclusively in his thoughts: about his development, about the world, about what he could have done and not done … Meanwhile, life passes by.

So, there can be many reasons for being overweight. But the bottom line is that once in your head a bunch appeared: “to be fat = beneficial / correct / safe”.

Your body is what you are. The body speaks to you — and believe me, fat too — in the most «green» language that can be. The main reason for our suffering is the illusion that nothing will ever change. But everything is changing!

Feelings, thoughts, circumstances come and go. Remember that this day when you are so unhappy with your body will also pass. And the only person who can influence this is you. Life cannot be started over, but it can be lived differently.
