Bronchosol is a cough medicine that is available over the counter. As with any drug that can be purchased at a pharmacy without the need to have a prescription, its use and dosage should be in accordance with the recommendations contained in the leaflet attached to the drug. What exactly is bronchosol? How should it be dosed and are there any contraindications to its use?

Bronchosol is available in almost every pharmacy, without a prescription. As it is an expectorant syrup, carefully follow the instructions contained in the leaflet attached to each package.

Bronchosol – indications

Bronchosol is an expectorant syrup, it is recommended in the case of wet cough, but also in other infections of the upper respiratory tract, with difficult expectoration. What does it contain? The active substance is a thick extract of thyme, thymol and primrose root. Excipients include purified water, sucrose and orange flavor. The main indication is to stimulate the secretion of liquid mucus in the bronchi, which accumulates in the bronchi during infection. Bronchosol is a natural medicine that supports the body during upper respiratory tract infections. The agent supports expectoration of the remaining secretions, which not only facilitates breathing, but also minimizes the risk of complications, for example bronchitis or pneumonia.

1. Thyme not only has expectorant properties, but also has anti-inflammatory and bactericidal properties, and also has a diastolic effect.
2. Thymol is a component of the essential oil found in thyme, it has a bactericidal and fungicidal effect.
3. Primrose has an expectorant effect, it relaxes the secretions that accumulate in the bronchi during infection

The dosage of the drug should be in accordance with the doctor’s recommendations or the recommendations contained in the product leaflet. The following dosing schedule should be followed:

1. children aged 4-6 years 3 ml 2,5 times a day
2. children aged 6-12 years 3 ml 5 times a day
3. children aged 12-18 years 3 ml 10 times a day
4. adults 3 times 15 ml of the drug daily

The syrup should be measured with the measuring cup attached to the package. Shake the bottle several times before use. It is very important not to take the medicine no later than three hours before going to bed. If a dose is missed, the next double dose should not be used.

Bronchosol – precautions

Keep the drug out of the reach of children. Of course, you must not use the drug after its expiry date. Like any other drug, Bronchosol may cause side effects. Treatment should be discontinued if the patient notices gastric problems, allergic reactions, vomiting, diarrhea. The frequency and intensity of these symptoms is not specified.

If you experience inappropriate reactions or if the symptoms of the disease are not minimized within a week, you should consult your doctor. Bronchosol should not be administered to people who have permanent gastric problems, including gastric ulcers, and the drug should not be given to children under 4 years of age. There is no confirmed information on abnormal interactions with other drugs or supplements. The same applies to the information on the need to avoid certain foods while taking the medicine. The product contains a small portion of ethanol.
