Summer camps: at what age?

According to the Unosel survey, 12-17 year olds go to holiday camps the most (65%). Next come children aged 6 to 11 (31%). 4-5 year olds are only 4% from summer camp. They are thus around 2 to take the plunge each year. As for the average age of departure, it is around 11 and a half. For the youngest, the average duration does not exceed 8 days, while for the older ones, it is around 15 days.

Summer camps: period and duration of stays

The length of stays has changed a lot. It went from 3 weeks to a maximum of 16 days, or even a week. The reason ? Long concentrated on the summer period, the colonies are now spread over the different school holiday periods.

Summer remains the favorable season for departing holiday camps (65%). Winter holidays then come second and represent 17% of requests, ahead of spring holidays (11%). Great novelty: with the change of the school calendar, the All Saints holidays, which now last 15 days, benefit from a greater demand for one-week stays (progression from 3 to 7%).

Summer camps: parents’ expectations

The Unosel, in its survey, identified the great expectations of families. First of all, parents are very attentive to the safety and quality of the stay when making their choice. Infrastructure and professionalism of supervisory staff are thus the most important criteria. An expectation is given in particular to the training of animators who will take care of the children on a daily basis.

In addition, parents hope that the educational stay will help their children grow up and make them more independent. Parents want summer camps to help empower them by involving them in particular in daily tasks (making the bed, participating in meals, etc.). In addition, for the parents, the colonies are a means of socialization for their child who will live new experiences in community and will have the possibility of making new friends. Finally, parents do not forget the notion of pleasure either.
